Pinch Punch!

It been a while, sorry.

It’s really cold here and there are constantly false reports of snow. It was supposed to snow 10-15 cm today and the other week it was supposed to snow about the same. Well, It’s cold enough! It’s a waste of cold weather for it not to snow!

February 1, 2007, first day of a nice short month. I really feel like something is coming to an end and I’m so happy, soon Mercury and Jupiter classes will be graduating and I will not have to teach them! I actually really enjoy spending time with Mercury, but the opposite can be said for Jupiter. No doubt that those two classes will be replaced by another two group of kids probably as bad if not worse, but this time round I feel like I know much more and am more prepared, I guess that’s what you call experience!

Watched a few films lately. First off I’d like to tell you a little about Rocky Balboa, watch it, keep an open mind, it’s not bad, not bad at all! I enjoyed it, not only cos I’m a Rocky fan and all I really wanted was that it was better than Rocky 5 (not difficult really). The images were nice, the music was good, the characters were… well the same but older and more flawed. It got a little too much at times, the shaky camera was a little nauseating at one point. I give it a rating of ‘Cheese Don Cass’, something I’d eat only one a month, maybe less. While I’d give V for Vendetta a rating of ‘Sum Gip’, something I eat once a week.

Jarhead, the beauty of which I think lies in the fact that nothing much really happens. I liked the scenery, especially the oil fire bit. My rating for Jarhead is ‘Kalbi’ a meaty dish that I don’t often eat due to its serious meaty-ness, its also brown and can be a little burned, its pretty, much Yan food.

The Night Banquet, a little confusing if you cant really read the subtitles and have been drinking beer. Scenery is great, I’d imagine most people would recognize the story, I didn’t until they start talking about poisoning a character. Rating: ‘Raw Fish’, a little confusing and something that I don’t eat unless someone takes me there and pays, it looks nice and is very foreign/alien to me, and can be alive.

Eragorn, not gonna bother, a bit ashamed I paid to see it, my defense is that there was nothing in the cinema in English apart from it. Rating: ‘Bon-De-Gi’, silk worm larvae, a dish that if I see in the street I try and stay away or hold me nose, cos it STINKS!!!

Pizza places

Why so many pizza places? There is a new one near Oh My! Chicken. That one is just round the corner from 153 Pizza, which is down the road from the pizza place we call Oh My! Pizza, and that is down the road from the pizza place under Wonderland and that is opposite Troy Pizza. There is also a place near the swimming pool about 5 minutes walk from Troy Pizza. The answer to this, I think is the answer to a lot of the questions I have for Korea; Why so many bars (or ‘hofs’)? How come everything is open later than in England?

Basically its cos there is a demand for all of the above. There are so many apartment buildings in my area and all built up areas of Incheon and Seoul, there are so many people so someone wants to drink til 4 in the morning and eat soup at 5 in the morning, in fact quite a few people would want to do these things! So, bars open until 4 in the morning and there are 24 hour kimbap houses and ‘hey-jang-guk’ shops.

Another thing is GS25, they sell alcohol 25 hours a day! So whatever state you are already in you can get more Soju!

I have no idea why the whole thing is a link to that picture, but its a great piccy, no?

Thank you all for your birthday and Xmas wishes! I had a great time over the Xmas period.
First off I celebrated my birthday at Oh My Chicken! which is my favourite place, if you didnt know already. It was a really good time, and thank you all for coming!

I totally forgot to tell you about Chrismas Eve! The Dittmans, Nami and myself had Sum Gip Sal outside, in the bloody freezing cold! So tasty! I think it was especially nice cos we ate outside! Here are some pics.

OK and now for New Years! I went away for on the 31st to Gangwa-Do, to a place near Bongpyeong. It was a really nice area with lots of mountains fresh air and lots of different things to see. The place we stayed in was very peaceful. Such a difference from my area, where you can here cars or people all the time!

I didnt get to take a picture of it, but there my kind of ice skating! You sit on a piece of wood and the wood has the skates, not your feet. You push yourself along by using little sticks, kind of like seated skiing on ice. Looks like there is a much smaller chance of falling down.

We took a whole bunch of food and had a barbeque. The next day we went over to Gangneung and had a look around there. We had a really nice meal of local tofu soup. Unfortunately the way back wasnt so good, it seems that a lot of people like to go to that part of the country for new years and the three hour trip became a six and a half hour bus journey.

I wanna say thanks to my girlfriend for taking me out there and for such a fun time for New Years.

Now its back to work. It was a really nice break. Looking forward to Lunar New Year!
